The solution is:

x= 4/3

y= 11/3.

Step by step: (substitution)



2x+1=-x+5

Add x to both sides.


3x+1=5.

Subtract 1.

3x=4.

Divide by 3.


x=4/3.

Use 4/3 instead of x to find y.

y=-(4/3)+5

y= 11/3.
