The perimeter can be calculated by adding the legnths off all 4 sides.

Since it is 5 inches wide and 3 inches tall, it has 2 sides of 5 inches and 2 sides of 3 inches. So, the perimeter is:

[tex]P=5+5+3+3=16[/tex]

16 inches.
